This year’s piece is abstract in nature, and was choreographed based
on instinctual feelings induced by shades of the color blue. Mental
image cascades of stormy blues, dancing rivers, and cloudless skies
helped to link movements to music, and express how seemingly different
concepts complement one another in the best kinds of ways. At surface
level, our existence as neither fully Asian nor fully American is a
similarly disjointed idea; however, closer inspection reveals the
significance of having both identities mesh together to shape the
Asian-American perspective. Our piece ends in celebration of this
unified identity, and pays tribute to the inexplicable, complex, and
wonderful emotions that come with having a pulse that beats to the
rhythm of two cultures as one.
